Here at Abbotsford Christian Assembly, we value families and look for every opportunity for families to gather.

In our church, we have an inside joke that we are a “food and fellowship church” - this demonstrates our love for families. In today’s world, the value of family has been significantly lost, but as a church we strive to make family a priority. We know that God made each family different, yet we all have the same needs for encouragement, strengthening and spiritual growth.

Below are a few of the family events that happen throughout the year. You can stay up to speed on our family events by clicking on "Upcoming Events" in the side menu.

Family Day on the River

Throughout the spring and late fall, when the weather is warm, we will all head out to the Fraser river bar in Chilliwack for a fun afternoon in Gods creation. Bring some hot dogs and drinks and we can cut some wiener sticks when we get there. This is a fair weather event so an announcement will be made in the morning service about this afternoon event. Email Dave Schapansky below if you want to be included in this fun family event.

The Great Outdoors- Picnics, BBQ’s, Hikes and Campouts

We gather after church on a private Sumas Mountain acreage where we fire up the BBQ after church. There is plenty of room for the kids to run with lots of funs activities like volleyball, bocce ball, or just relaxing in the shade. What a great way to meet new friends.

Our fall BBQ in early September is the premier event with BBQ chicken slow roasted on briquettes, plenty of trimmings, desserts, and entertainment for the whole family.

In mid-August, dozens of families gather on a private acreage for a whole weekend of camping. All food and camping is provided for a nominal cost of $60 per family or $20 for singles. Just pack your tent or camping trailer, some sleeping bags, beverages and lawn chairs and join us for a great weekend.

In July, the tide is way out on White Rock beach leaving warm safe tidal pools for the kids to play in. We all pack a lunch and head out for a great afternoon of beachcombing, sand castles, beach volleyball and just hanging out with friends and family. Just pack a lunch and some drinks; bring the sunscreen, lawn chairs and all the kids- maps will be provided that morning at the info center at the church. Most families stay late in the evening to watch the tide come in and have some great fish and chips in the sunset.

Throughout the year, our outdoor adventure group heads to the local mountains for day hikes and some over night trips. We crested the alpine on Elk Mountain, climbed to the peak of Vedder Mountain, hiked to the beautiful Radium Lake, and re-traced the early steps of the pioneer fur traders of 1858 on the First Brigade Trail.

Our Father and Child fishing night in the fall captures the hearts of the kids and their dads as we fish for salmon off the Stave River. Even if you have not fished before, we have many keen fishermen who can lend you some gear and a few tips. Big fish and plenty of smiles are a guarantee on this night.
